An epanoklivanon is the Byzantine equivalent to the Westen surcoat. The particular military garment had the image of St Demetrius woven and it was presented as a gift to the emperor from his wife.

One of the epigrams comes from the pen of Michael Psellos, but it is mingled with texts attributed to Manuel Straboromanos.
